Dr. Peter Purdue is fondly remembered for his passion and advocacy for Art Education. During his prestigious fifty-year teaching career, he inspired and touched the hearts of thousands of teachers, artists and students in galleries, elementary schools, alternative educational settings, high schools, and universities. For 26 years, he was a member of the Department of Art and Art History as an Associate Professor at the University of Saskatchewan where he received a number of awards including: The University of Saskatchewan Student Union Teaching Excellence Award and a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Canadian Association for Education through Art. His kindness, compassion and empathic nature encouraged, motivated and empowered students of all ages, particularly the Indigenous youths and disadvantaged children he worked with at the Friendship Inn every Saturday. Even in retirement, Peter continued to advocate for Art Education and graciously volunteered to act as Vice President AND Treasurer for SAEA in its initial year. We are eternally grateful for Peter's tremendous passion, energy and guidance….and for making the art world, especially in Saskatchewan, a better place
